The biggest challenge I have found – though by no means unique to women – has been getting a balance between work and family life which I feel happy with. When I became a parent I was lucky enough to be able to work one day from home each week, which was not common then for someone working in a full-time, fee-earning role at a city firm. I am still grateful for the flexibility they – Herbert Smith, as it then was – allowed me in those early parenting years.
We are completely spoilt for choice in this field. Preparing for GDPR was an extremely tough time for all of us involved. It’s still challenging but now it’s a matter of watching the new regime mature, seeing what the developments mean in practice. Data subject rights and what efforts are expected when it comes to transparency are fundamental aspects.
