Data about people – whether they’re customers, partners or staff is essential to VMware fulfilling our corporate mission. I am part of the VMware privacy team and our role is to enable VMware to use personal data by operationalising and embedding our privacy strategy, so that we navigate the complex and changing landscape of privacy regulatory and stay true to our corporate values: education, passions, integrity, customers and our communities.
Do what you love, and you’ll never work another day in your life. It’s a sentiment that we have heard a few times, but I am passionate about innovation, technology and the law. VMware helps me to realise these passions in a fantastic corporate environment.
I was fortunate to have worked in-house at the start of my career and thoroughly enjoyed the nuances of working in-house, driving the business objectives with other functions.
The need to operationalise privacy as already heralded changes to the way in which we have worked. I see this trend increasing as privacy teams become more ingrained into corporate framework. The key challenge is to embed a privacy structure that allows the business to scale and remain agile, but behave with integrity in the use of data.
