I am the chief legal expert on privacy in a global telecoms manufacturer. My role is to trace global data protection and privacy laws and work with my team to interpret them, then develop baselines and key control points in business procedures that the business teams must comply with.

I enjoy my technical team sharing the advanced technology and business models with me, and I enjoy discussing with them how to match privacy expectations from individuals and the applicable laws.

I have worked at this company for more than 18 years. With the expansion of the company, I have been growing with it. I have been engaged in different professional areas: firstly, I was a commercial lawyer for contract review and negotiation; then I engaged in some M&A cases. Nearly nine years ago, I started looking after privacy compliance. One of the most interesting things is, I can judge a problem from an international viewpoint with my growing knowledge of cases in different countries.

I really enjoy working with external lawyers who have rich experience in my industry, because they are not only interpreting laws literally – they can catch the spirit behind the laws and respond swiftly.
