Typically, my role includes giving advice on the privacy impact of new technologies, new acquisitions or restructuring businesses.

I love the subject matter and the variety. At any one time I could be dealing with our commercial teams working on a merger; with the technology and security teams working on implementation of new technologies; with regulators on new or emerging legal requirements.

There is attention in the press about data being the new gold and the source of economic growth in the fourth industrial revolution. Data can most certainly be an asset – yet only when handled with care and insight. At the end of most data points or datasets is an individual. It is important that there is transparency and choice and that the rights and interests of individuals and customers are respected.

[Ganopolsky is particularly proud of] the ability to implement a group-wide, international framework that is genuinely federated across the 28 countries that we operate in. I am a “function of one” and rely regularly on the time and expertise of my colleagues in our businesses, their respective legal teams, incident response and our technology and security teams. I am immensely proud of the staff who have engaged with the privacy and data issues, and continue to do so.
