I am following the impact of data protection laws, in the EU and elsewhere, on other regulatory obligations and compliance programmes of multinational companies. Many of our clients are struggling to find a balance between data protection and the need to conduct sanctions screening, KYC [know your client] checks, and due diligence on their customers and partners.
I would advise aspiring female privacy professionals to not think of yourself as a female data law professional. This is a relatively new and rapidly evolving field which does not necessarily advantage the “old guard.” We all have a real opportunity to make a mark.
My greatest career accomplishment has been reading all of the GDPR – including all the recitals. It’s a doozy!
