Beginning with my time at the FTC and continuing into private practice, I have been fortunate to work closely with industry and regulators to develop new policy frameworks around emerging technology issues. Specific examples include formulating best practices for alternative data acquisition and use, and contributing to the development of daily fantasy sports regulations.
The interest in state-specific privacy legislation, including the California Consumer Privacy Act, and the potential for federal legislation, are two significant trends in the data space that I am closely following and helping clients navigate. Additionally, with so much data available and from novel sources, I am working with clients to develop best practices around their acquisition and use of such data in a way that respects privacy and other legal considerations.
I would advise aspiring privacy professionals to identify what issues you enjoy learning about and discussing, and focus on honing your skills in those areas. Then, as an expert on those issues, you create opportunities to become an integral member of a team.
