My career as a data protection lawyer began really by chance with a minor query from a client that turned into a significant piece of cross-border data protection advice and then spiralled from there. I found it so enjoyable, I knew I’d found my area.
My career highlights include working with our data privacy team internationally, providing me with a valuable global perspective and the opportunity to work with some incredibly interesting clients and lawyers.
I think that data is an area of law in which women really shine, perhaps because it requires not only technical expertise, but also a keen intuition. The increase in flexible working has also helped women to combine the law and family life, allowing them to show what they’re truly made of, given the chance.
A piece of advice for aspiring young data professionals is that data privacy law is an incredibly rewarding area to work in, as it is relevant to so many parts of life, both personal and commercial. It impacts on practically all businesses, whatever industry they’re in resulting in a very varied practice. It’s rarely boring!
